On Monday, the police in Los Angeles named a 35-year-old woman from Florida as the individual who is said to have shot at Rihanna’s residence in Southern California using an AR-15-style rifle.
Police reported that Ivanna Lisette Ortiz was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the incident that happened on Sunday afternoon at the property just outside of Beverly Hills.
Police say that the nine-time Grammy winner was at home in Beverly Crest, which is just north of Beverly Hills, with her partner A$AP Rocky and their kids when the bullets were fired at 1:15 p.m.
Police say the suspect drove up to the entrance of the property and started shooting. It wasn’t obvious what the likely motive was.
The front gate of the property looked like it had bullet holes in it, but the police confirmed no one was harmed.
NBC Los Angeles reported that LAPD sources said cops stopped a car that looked like the one seen at Rihanna’s house during the shooting in adjacent Sherman Oaks and arrested the suspect.
According to sheriff’s records, Ortiz was taken into custody at 2:20 p.m. on Sunday and booked into L.A. County jail soon after 2 a.m. on Monday. Jail records showed that her bond was $10.225 million.
The suspect was connected to social media identities of an Illinois native who says he works as a speech therapist in Florida.
State records show that there is a woman with the same name who is a licensed speech-language pathologist and is currently in good standing. According to state records, the licence was given out on March 17, 2015, and will be good until December 31, 2027.
In 2013, she was part of a bankruptcy case. In 2021, she was arrested on suspicion of careless driving. In 2023, she was arrested again on suspicion of domestic abuse and battery.
The records proved that she was a licensed speech pathologist and had no known ties to Rihanna or her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky.
Ortiz often posted videos of himself rapping, dancing, and calling out famous people on Facebook. She was alone in front of the camera in almost every video.
She shared a meme on February 17 that said Rihanna had AIDS.
On February 23, Ortiz wrote on Facebook, tagging Rihanna and imploring her, “Say something to me directly instead of sneaking around like you’re talking to me where I’m not.”
Police said that Ortiz shot several times from her car at the celebrity’s house. Police Sgt. Jonathan de Vera, who speaks for the Los Angeles Police Department, said that no one was hurt in the incident.
According to the LAPD radio dispatch, at least ten rounds were fired at the home from a car parked across the street from the gate. The dispatch recording said that the car, a white Tesla, then sped south on Coldwater Canyon Drive.
As police looked for the Tesla, they talked about it on the radio: The suspect’s hair was in braids, she wore a cream-coloured shirt, and the bottom of her automobile was soiled. Radio reports that The Times looked at said that officers in a helicopter immediately saw her car and tracked it to a shopping center parking lot in Sherman Oaks. They apprehended her about 30 minutes after the 911 call came in.
“When they stopped the suspect and arrested her, they searched the car and found an assault rifle and seven casings,” said LAPD spokesperson Armen Arias.
He said that police found bullet holes in a gate at Rihanna’s house and in an RV parked in the driveway.
Reports say that the pop artist and ASAP Rocky live in a colonial-style property in the Beverly Hills Post Office neighbourhood. The couple has three small kids: a daughter and two sons. It wasn’t obvious right away if anyone else was home when the shooting happened.
